Major General (Maj Gen) Peter Cosgrove on the wharf at Dili, accompanied by his bodyguard Corporal Kirsty Hearn. Behind him is HMAS Jervis Bay. Maj Gen Cosgrove is commander of the International Force in East Timor (INTERFET). As such, he is responsible for the largest Australian overseas deployment since the Vietnam War, and forces from 22 countries.
