Description

Protestors rally in the streets of the Indonesian capital against the Australian led International Force for East Timor (INTERFET). A relative of an Indonesian soldier, possibly killed by supporters of East Timorese independence, wears his uniform and an elaborately framed photograph of him, and carries a sign reading 'UN = united nations is not UN = un netral [neutral]'. INTERFET was the UN-sanctioned intervention to restore peace in East Timor, and end the bloodshed that followed the province's vote for independence from Indonesia.
