Weiler, Hans (Civilian internee, b.1910 - d.2004)
Collection relating to the Second World War experience of civilian internee Hans Weiler, alias Henry John Weiler, Australia, 1943-1944.
Wallet 1 of 1 - contains one diary kept during 1943-1944 by Hans Weiler, an ex-patriate German-Jewish man interned by Allied Works Council (AWC) in Australia during the Second World War. The diary describes Mr Weiler's wartime experiences as an enemy alien, including manual work in an Alice Springs camp and his frustration at not being able to work in his profession as a teacher of science and engineering mathematics. The diary also contains newspaper articles relating to the Allied Works Council and correspondence to Mr Weiler from Clemens Kelvin, a fellow refugee who did not turn up for the AWC call and was acting as go-between for Weiler and the authorities trying to obtain Mr Weiler's release and naturalisation.
