Informal portrait of artist Francis Lymburner taken in his Park Street studio as a promotional image for the release of his book 'Lymburner'. Stanley Francis Lymburner was born in Brisbane, Qld in 1916 and was educated at Brisbane Grammar School and Brisbane Technical College where he studied art under F Martyn Roberts. In 1939 he moved to Sydney and commenced sketching animals at Taronga Zoological Park. He enlisted as N181956 Private S T Lymburner and was posted to the 120th Australian Special Hospital as a nursing orderly. He was discharged medically unfit in November 1944. He died in 1972 aged 56 years.
