Slouch hat : Corporal G N Wood, 3 Battalion Royal Australian Regiment, 27 Infantry Brigade
Khaki fur felt slouch hat with six pleat cotton puggaree bearing the woollen cloth patch of 27 Infantry Brigade in the form of a triangle (originally blue but now faded to khaki) with an inner inverted triangle in red and the numeral '9' embroidered in white in each corner. The hat turn up is secured by a press stud and bears an oxidised Rising Sun badge. The hat has a leather sweatband stamped 'D (broad arrow) D' and 'N121 FUR FELT 71/4 1945'. There is a pair of metal ventilation eyelets on either side of the crown. The hat brim is bound in khaki cotton drill.
This hat was worn by 3400201 Corporal Geoffrey Noel Wood during his service in Korea with 3 Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR) between 13 March and 16 June 1951. 3RAR formed part of Corporal Geoffrey Noel Wood Wood, who was born at Rosebud, Victoria, in 1924, also served as a leading aircraftman with the RAAF during the Second World War, between October 1942 and January 1945.
