Studio portrait of V377459 Private Vladimir Josif (Yosl) Bergner, 6 Employment Company of Caulfield, Victoria. Bergner, an Austrian artist, emigrated to Australia in 1937 when he was 17 years old. Pre-war he studied painting at the National Gallery Art School in Melbourne. At the end of the war he received a Commonwealth Rehabilitation Scholarship to return to his studies at the National Gallery Art School. He left Australia in 1948, travelling first to Paris and then to Israel, where he currently lives and works.
