Prophet, Milton Thomas (Private, b.1923 - d.2004)
Collection relating to TX15617 (T34859) Private Milton Thomas Prophet, 31 Company Australian Army Service Corps, Second World War. Collection mostly comprises letters written to Milton Prophet by his fiancee, later wife, Olive Prophet, nee Berry, 1941 - 1946. Other letters are written by Milton Prophet to his wife, 1945; a letter from Prophet's parents; and letters from 'Vonnie', a young girl.
Olive writes regular letters from home in West Tamar, a rural town in Tasmania, to Milton, who served in Australia, initially Tasmania. She describes daily activities such as knitting and shopping, trips to Exeter (Tasmania), and preparations for their wedding in December 1942. Olive describes meetings with and news of family members and other acquaintances. Olive consistently expresses her love for her husband, and her loneliness during his absence. In 1945, Olive gave birth to a daughter, named Coral, and she gives accounts of Coral's progress. Letters written in August 1945 depict the events relating to the news of the end of the Second World War. Some of the letters contain drawings, and a dried flower was enclosed with one.
