Football honour cap : Royal Military College, Duntroon
Blue velvet skull cap trimmed with a red velvet band around the brim. The cap, which extends slightly at the back, is divided into six sections by lengths of red cord which are stitched from the brim to a central point on the top of the cap. A silver bullion button with a bullion wire tassell is sewn to the top. The front section of the cap is embroidered in bullion wire with the Royal Military College badge with the letters 'R.M.C.'. To the right side of the badge the date '1931' is embroidered in red cord. The inside of the cap is lined with black quilted cotton with the maker's label sewn into one side.
This cap was one of five presented to members of the 1931 Royal Military College rugby football team. It was a tradition at the college to award an honour cap to outstanding players from that year. In 1931 the honour cap was awarded to the following cadets: 479 Lance Corporal H C Christy, 480 Corps Sergeant Major N G Dodds, 485 Sergeant I T Murdoch, 495 Corporal R E Dewar and 516 Staff Cadet R W Knights. Four of these men went on to serve in the Second World War, with Lieutenant-Colonel Dodds dying from illness in Ceylon on 1 March 1942. Major Murdoch, Lt-Col Dewar and Lt-Col Knights remained in the Army until the 1960s. The service history of Lance Corporal Christy is not available.
