Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF) Tachikawa Ki-9 primary trainer aircraft on an airfield in South Korea. ROKAF rondels can be seen on the underneath side of the lower wings, and on the fuselage of the aircraft. The aircraft, which has a tandem open cockpit, is powered by an Army Type 95 9 cylinder air-cooled radial engine, developing 350 horsepower. It has a maximum speed of 240 kph and a cruising speed of 150 kph. A total of 2,618 Ki-9 aircraft were originally manufactured for the Japanese Army Airforce in the Second World War. After the war, a large number remained in rear echelon areas such as China, Korea and Thailand. They were also operated by the fledgling Indonesian People's Securty Forces Airforce immediately after the Second World War.
