Description

Informal photograph of four officers of the 4th Light Horse Regiment. Identified left to right: 13833 Captain (Capt) Norman Gordon Rae, MC; Major (Major) George James Rankin, DSO and Bar; 369 Lieutenant (Lt) Leslie Albert Austin; Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Murray William James Bourchier, CMG, DSO. From the collection of 1599 Sergeant Maifred Philip Lazarus, 4th Light Horse. Written on the back, "Some of our officers. Damn good sports". All men sailed from Melbourne on HMAT Wiltshire on 19 October 1914. Most of the above awards were earned during the attack on Beersheba in October 1917. All men returned safely to Australia.
