Informal portrait of Sister Ethel Brice Butler, Australian Army Nursing Service (AANS) of Kilcoys, Queensland. Sister Butler embarked with 1st Australian General Hospital of the HMAT Kyarra from Brisbane on 21 December 1914. She was Matron in Chief on 3rd Auxiliary Hospital. She returned to Australia on April 1916 with the 4th Auxiliary Hospital Heliopolis and later embarked on SS Canberra from Sydney, NSW on 16 November 1917. She was awarded Associate Royal Red Cross (ARRC), on 10 January 1916. She also served in India.
