Officer's full dress overalls : Victorian Permanent Artillery
Description
Dark blue superfine wool overalls with high buttoned waist, right front welt pocket and 45mm wide gold lace stripes downthe outer legs. Wool cloth strap at hem of each leg, one currently unstitched at one side. Ankle section of hem reinforced with narrow strip of leather. Waist lined with striped cotton twill and glazed fabric. Cotton drill pocket lining. Buttoned fly and fork lined with glazed fabric. Buttons are black coated brass with 'OUR OWN MAKE'. One button at waist engraved 'EXCELSIOR'.
History / Summary
The Victorian Permanent Artillery was formed in 1870 but disbanded in 1880. It was reformed in 1882 as the Victorian Garrison Artillery until it was absorbed into the Royal Australian Artillery just prior to Federation.
