History / Summary

This tunic is similar to that worn by the 1st Victorian Metropolitan Rifles. The Victorian Rifles retained their scarlet tunics for full dress even though khaki was adopted for uniforms in 1892. The designation of the corps was worn in brass letters and numerals on the shoulder straps. For the infantry militia this was usually a combined brass title that included a letter and number indicating the company and battalion number, and VR for Victorian Rifles.
