Overalls : Victorian Artillery
Description
Dark blue gabardine wool overalls with wide scarlet superfine wool stripe extending down each outside leg. High buttoned waist and concealed fly with black celluloid buttons. Large vertical welt pocket at each side seam, lined with khaki plain weave cotton. Narrow trouser legs have scooped hems at the front and at both sides of each leg is a black patent leather instep strap; the outer strap with holes and the inner strap with a coated black ferrous metal buckle. Waist and fork lined with striped white cotton twill and buttoned side of fly with a synthetic black satin weave fabric, possibly rayon.
History / Summary
Overalls of the type worn by artillery units. The Victorian artillery was absorbed into the Royal Australian Artillery just prior to Federation.
