Tropical dress trousers : Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve
Description
White cotton drill, straight legged trousers with two side welt pockets and one back welt pocket all lined with plain white cotton. Buttoned waist and fly with various original celluloid and later plastic replacement buttons either brown or white. Trouser leg hems have been altered at various lengths. Stitching alteration lines at back seam.
History / Summary
Tropical white tunics and trousers were introduced in the Royal Navy and British colonial navies 1885 and worn with white helmets. The Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve was established in 1903.
