Description

Boxed table tennis game in a plain carboard box with pasted 5 colour label. The contents consist of a pair of simple austerity paddles with nailed handles and cork faces; a blue dyed net bound with cotton; a pair of bent wire net supports and a celluloid ball with the printed legend 'Made in England'.

History / Summary

Standard table tennis set featuring austerity manufacturing practices - the paddles are very simple; the net is poor quality and the net supports are vastly simplified when compared to pre-war offerings. The Healthy Games Manufacturing Company had previously marketed this item under the brand name 'Olympic'. The 'Commando' brand was adopted to lend a more military nature to the product. It is typical of the items sent by the Australian Comforts Fund to Australian troops serving overseas.
