Description

A group of soldiers from 2nd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (2RAR), taking some leave as they head out of the jungle in the back of a British Landrover. Identified from left are: 3/2718 Corporal (Cpl) Ron Addison, of Lalor, Vic; 5/7035 Lieutenant (Lt) Alec Piper, of Como, WA; 2/10904 Private (Pte) Hugh McInally, of Coburg, Vic; 3/5654 Pte John Mutton (designated 'shotgun rider'), of Geelong, Vic; Pte Ivan Stevenson (driver), of Bayswater, Vic; 3/3609 Sergeant (Sgt) Clarrie Crapper, of South Melbourne, Vic. The men are all armed with Number 5, Short Magazine Lee Enfield (SMLE), jungle carbines with the exception of Lt Piper who is armed with a US M1 .30 Calibre Carbine and Pte Mutton with an Owen gun. Cpl Addison served in Korea with 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR) in 1952 where he was wounded in action. Sgt Crapper also served in Korea with 2RAR from 1953-1954 and he completed two tours in South Vietnam with the Australian Army Training Team Vietnam (AATTV) in 1967-1968 and 1970-1971.
