Slide Warrant Officer McMurtrie - Footballer. Portrait of 3211 Charles McMurtrie, 20th Battalion, then 56th Battalion, of Orange NSW. McMurtrie represented Australia as a Wallaby, playing in England in 1908, and was a club player with the Waratahs. This slide is one of a series used in a 1917 recruiting campaign to encourage sportsmen to enlist in a sportsmen's unit, such as had been successfully raised in England. The concept was not as popular in Australia.
