Description
A Soviet built Second World War era T34-85 tank seen amongst the spectacular scenery of the lower Panjshir Valley. This tank was probably used by Afghan government forces, and taken over by Northern Alliance forces after the collapse of Afghanistan's communist government. The valley was a stronghold of the Northern Alliance, whose advance on Kabul, then held by the Taliban, was supported by United States and Australian forces after the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001.
