Description

Informal portrait of 425080 Flying Officer Jack Venning sitting inside the aircraft and 415193 Flight Sergeant (Flt Sgt) Daniel Rees, sitting on the wing of their badly damaged Lancaster after safely landing the aircraft in England after their bombing mission to Milan, Italy. The hole in the wing was large enough for two men to stand in. Flt Sgt Rees was later awarded the Conspicuous Gallantry Medal (CGM) for safely returning the entire crew and aeroplane to base.
