Portrait of 415055 Colin McTaggart Shannon from Nomans Lake, East Narrogin, Western Australia (WA) who participated in No. 18 Course 4 SFTS (Service Flying Training School) pilots course at Pearce Aerodrome, Cunderdin, Geraldton, WA, in 1941. He enlisted in the RAAF on 23 June 1941, was promoted to Flight Lieutenant and was killed on flying operations over France on 10 August 1943 while flying with 76 Squadron, RAF. He was posthumously awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) for a night attack on Essen in July 1943.
