Description

Punmanjom. North Korean or Chinese nurses or doctors wearing white laboratory coats stand at the rear of several buses carrying allied prisoners of war (POWs) during Operation Little Switch. Allied medics wearing red cross armbands prepare to greet the prisoners and assist them to the tents at right for assessment and debriefing. Some of the soon to be freed POWs including Australians are only now becoming brave enough to pull down the curtains that had concealed the landscape during their journey. This photograph is one of a series taken by Australian Mr Douglas (Doug) Bushby in his capacity as a UN accredited War Correspondent. Mr Bushby devoted much of his time to missionary work amongst Korean refugees, orphans and North Korean and Chinese prisoners of war.
