Officer's khaki woollen peaked cap : Temporary Lieutenant P G Taylor, 26 Battalion, CMF
Description
Australian Army Citizen's Military Forces 1914 issue khaki woollen peaked cap with oxidised brass general service 'rising sun' badge.
History / Summary
This cap was worn by Patrick Gordon Taylor (later Sir) who received his first military training as a cadet at The Armidale School. Served in the senior cadets when he left, and was commissioned second lieutenant on 4 May 1914. In 1915 he was appointed temporary lieutenant in 26 Battalion CMF, replacing a lieutenant who had joined the AIF. He was keen to be on active service too but was rejected by the AIF, so he travelled to England at his own expense to join the RFC.
