A hydraulic press turns waste into money making scrap metal at Tokchon, Korea. Operating the press with a Korean assistant is 34435 Private (Pte) Eric Arthur Thurgood, of Bandianna, Vic. Pte Thurgood is a member of the British Commonwealth Salvage and Disposal Unit which is saving thousands of pounds a year by converting battlefield waste into saleable scrap. Pte Thurgood came to Australia from London as a migrant two years ago. Before he joined the army he was an aircraft engineer with BOAC.
