The men of the 1st Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment, in Korea, must be ready at all times ...
The men of the 1st Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment, in Korea, must be ready at all times to occupy their battle positions in the Kansas Line south of the Demilitarised Zone. Every man must know exactly where he has to go and what is required of him when he gets there, so they get plenty of practice. These 'bug outs' take place without warning at any time of any day, and when all reports have come in that the positions are fully occupied and all troops ready to fight, the exercise is called off and they climb out of their trenches and march back to camp. Climbing out of his snowy position, preparatory to the move back, is 52525 Private (Pte) Ronald William (Ron) Harris of Capel, WA. Before he enlisted in the army Pte Harris worked as a station hand for the Elder Smith Company at Mt Magnet. He is a keen Australian Rules player and used to play with the Capel Football Club.
