Description
Waiting for the signal to move off with his patrol into the Demilitarised Zone (DMZ) in Korea is Indigenous serviceman 26543 Private (Pte) Rowley Edward Callen, of the 1st Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (1RAR). The Australian battalion takes it in turns with other Commonwealth units, to send patrols into the zone which separates the Communists (North Koreans and Chinese) from the United Nations forces in the truce line. Alongside Pte Callen is a specially trained patrol dog with his handler, an unidentified British Army corporal from the Dorset Regiment. The dog can pick up the scent of a man at a distance of 600 yards, and he is invaluable for night patrol work.
