An admiring group of Australian servicemen see the Argus photograph of the wife and newly born son of Sergeant (Sgt) Geoff Webb. Sgt Webb is a member of the Royal Australian Corps of Signals (RA Sigs) serving with the Britcom Base Signal Regiment. When the Argus photographs and copies of the newspaper arrived in Japan, Sgt Webb, who is normally stationed at Kure, Japan, had just commenced a course of instruction at the immense US Signals Overseas Relay Station near Tokyo. His fellow Australian students are taking time out from studying how this station handles its daily fifteen thousand messages, to admire the picture and congratulate the head of the family. 'It has been great to see a picture of my little family so soon,' said Sgt Webb, ' and I just can't say how much I appreciate the Argus' gesture.' The kneeling group are, from left to right: Corporal Jock Nowell, of Brisbane, Qld; Sgt Webb; Sgt Barry Moore, of Melbourne, Vic; and Signalman Bob Pither, of Yarra (?), Vic.
