Description

An Australian patrol moves through the Demilitarised Zone (DMZ) on the Korean truce line. Both the Communists and the United Nations forces are allowed to send out patrols as far as the military demarcation line, a double strand of barbed wire which cuts across the middle of the DMZ for the whole of its 180 mile length. Sometimes the patrols pass within touching distance of each other. The unidentified members of the patrol are from the 1st Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (1RAR). They are wearing Military Police (MP) helmets and armbands. This series of photographs (MELJ1049 to MELJ1054) is the first to be taken inside the Commonwealth sector of the DMZ.
