Description

An explanation of the mechanism of the torpedo tubes of the Australian battle class destroyer HMAS Tobruk is being given to two British soldiers of the British Commonwealth forces serving at Kure, Japan. They are, left to right: Private (Pte) George Blaylock, of Birtley, Newcastle, England; Pte Geoffrey Upsall, of Bennington, Lincolnshire, England; and Able Seaman Geoffrey Cooper, of Toowomba, Qld. The occasion is a get together of the Army and Navy when the captain of the Tobruk invited British Commonwealth troops to visit the ship during her call there. Pte Blaylock was a Doncaster coalminer before joining the regular army five years ago. He is employed at the British Commonwealth Base Workshops, Kure. A draper in civilian life, Pte Upsall now serves as an army cook with British Commonwealth forces.
