Description

Sergeant (Sgt) Edwin 'Ted' Corbett and his bride Miss Tetsuko Shiraishi leave St Peter's Garrison Church, Kure, Japan, after their marriage ceremony on 9 August 1956. They met at Ebisu Camp, Tokyo, where they both worked. Sgt Corbett, a National Serviceman in the Royal Army Service Corps (RASC) is leaving Japan on the troopship Empire Orwell on 13 August 1956, to go to Malaya where he will remain until the completion of his National Service in April 1957. He was a member of the Public Relations section of Headquarters, British Commonwealth Forces Korea (BCFK), and in Tokyo he was sub editor on the Japan News. Before his call-up, Sgt Corbett was a junior reporter for the Yorkshire Evening Press. Mrs Corbett is not going to Malaya, but will meet up with him next year at Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire, England.
