Collection relating to the British Commonwealth Occupation Force (BCOF) service of VX105291 Sergeant (later 34591 Warrant Officer Class II) William Thomas 'Tom' Royal, 34 Brigade Transport Company, Japan, 1946.
Wallet 1 of 1 - Consists of a letter Royal wrote to a family friend [12-year-old Elizabeth 'Betty' Doherty] on 7 July 1946 while serving with the BCOF in Japan. He describes the natural scenery of Japan, Japanese crop growing methods, the houses and schools, and the damaged wrought by the Allied bombing campaigns. He specifically mentions the damage done to industrial areas and the atomic bombing of Hiroshima.
