Description
A Hurricane MK1 V7670 aircraft captured intact by the Germans in March 1941 and then recaptured at Gambut Airfield later. The photograph was taken by 30587 Leading Aircraftman (LAC) Jack Bardenhagen using a Baby Brownie camera. LAC Bardenhagen was born at Launceston, Tasmania, on 9 July 1922. He enlisted with the RAAF on 29 August 1940 and saw service in Palestine, Egypt and Libya during 1941 and 1942. LAC Bardenhagen served with 3 Squadron RAAF and 3 Mobile Works Squadron. He used the camera throughout his wartime career and has donated the camera to AWM. LAC Bardenhagen's story and his camera appeared in a Wartime (AWM journal) article in April 1991.
