Description
Short Magazine Lee-Enfield No 1 Mk III* Rifle. Action marked with a crown over ENFIELD 1916 III* under the bolt arm and the butt with a steel disc is stamped 5/32/W. Full walnut stock and all matching serial numbers. It is fitted with a webbing sling made by Wrights Ltd 1914 and is marked on the inside in black letters A60RFA 26.
History / Summary
This was the principal rifle used by British Empire Forces in the First and Second World Wars, and Korean War. 640,000 were manufactured in Australia from 1913 to 1960. The rifle was used as the basis for sniping rifles, and grenade launching rifles. It was simple to use and accurate at long range. Total production of all Lee-Enfields is estimated at over 17 million.
