Low level bombsight computer Mark III : Royal Air Force
Mechanical computer comprising a box shape with a cut out window with a perspex cover. Interior of box is fitted with a roller with a printed paper guide allowing user to dial in height and speed. There are four separate scales on the roller. Two external wheels allow the roller and the air speed pointer to be adjusted individually. Box is fitted with flanges to mount to aircraft. Finish is matt black in colour. Cast into body is Air Ministry serial number AM0487. The reference plate on side includes title of computer and store ref 9/2652 and serial number 1178/43.
Low level bombsight computer Mark III was designed for use up to 1,000 feet and developed primarily for the bombing of German submarines at low level, the Mk III was also effective against land targets.
