History / Summary
This box carried the tools required to use and maintain the 5.5 inch gun. The tools include, a crosscut saw, shovel, camoflage frame, aiming posts, scrubbing brushes, axes, sledge hammers, block and tackle, and canvas gun covers. The 5.5 inch gun was a contemporary of the 25 pounder and was immensely popular with the Royal Artillery. It saw a great deal of service during the Second World War with the British. In Australian service, the gun was not used outside of Australia.
