RAAF number plate : Leyland 3-ton Truck
Rectangular metal number plate with a stamped reinforcing border, with 'A ^ F - 32' painted in white on the front face. There are four mounting holes at each end of the plate.
Number plate associated with the Leyland Model G 3-ton lorry which was supplied to the British War Department. The original body type and service history are unknown. Repurchased by Leyland post-WW1, it came to Australia 1920s, reputedly used in the early construction of Canberra and later in the ACT timber industry, according to the owner. The owner restored the vehicle around 1974/75. This number plate 'A ^ F - 32' was with the vehicle when he acquired it and is an early RAAF number plate pattern from the 1921 - 1939 period. Being 32, it is likely to have been issued in the early 1920s and may provide a clue to the vehicle's early use.
