Informal portrait taken at No 9 Course Empire Air Training Scheme in Canada. Identified are: O13705 (404916) Warrant Officer (WO) Murray Arthur May, 53 Squadron, RAF Coastal Command, of Brisbane, Qld (left), and 404903 Sergeant (Sgt) Neil Malcolm Hardy, 50 Squadron, of Brisbane, Qld. WO May’s Hudson aircraft was disabled with ack ack guns by a convoy of ships and crash landed in the seas just off the Island of Sylt. He was captured by the Germans and interned at Stalag Luft 111. Sgt Hardy was killed in a flying battle over German on 26 June 1942, aged 20 years.
