Studio portrait of 51996 Private (Pte) William Charles Edwards, 1st Reinforcements, 28th Battalion, of Perth, WA, wearing glasses and a great coat. Pte Edwards enlisted on 25 July 1917 after repeatedly being rejected due to his poor eye-sight. He had originally attempted to enlist with his brother Alfred Edwards in 1914. Pte Edwards embarked aboard SS Port Darwin on 8 May 1918 from Albany, WA. He was promoted to the rank of acting Sergeant with 1st Western Reinforcements and returned to Australia on 28 February 1919.
