History / Summary

The engines on the Me 262 were both started using two petrol powered Riedel starter engines, each located in central cone of the jet engine housing. The Riedel starter produced 10 horsepower at 6,000 rpm, and had its own electric starter motor, but for emergencies it also had a pull starter in the nose cone, with a pull string protruding through the visible circular opening.
