Morse sender : Flight Sergeant E R Wood, Royal Air Force
Royal Air Force, Morse sender. Operated with the Marconi T1154/R1155 radio set, the type used in Lancaster and Mosquito aircraft. Component references 10F/7741, 10A/7790, 10A/7789.
Flight Sergeant E R Wood operated this equipment in Wellington, Mosquito, and DC3 aircraft, while serving in the Royal Air Force (RAF) Transport Command. Wood joined the RAF in 1943 as Wireless Operator Air Crew and his preliminary training consisted of four hours a day learning morse code, until he was proficient at 18 words per minute. The remainder of his day was spent learning about and operating the Marconi T1154/R1155 radio equipment, and related subjects. His flight training began in a de Havilland Dominie, with an instructor and eight students, then he advanced to a Percival Proctor, with just a pilot and a student. Most RAF aircraft other than fighter aircraft were fitted with the Marconi T1154/R1155 and all communications were done in morse code.
