Description
A close-up of a Wireless Set No. 10 erected at Mount St Leonard, near Healesville, showing parabolic reflectors in the operational position. Members of the signals unit, No 3 Australian Multi-Channel Wireless Section were in training using this equipment for a proposed landing on Japan; as snow had fallen the wireless was being tested in these conditions. The No 10 set had a unique method of modulation which prevented interception. The range of the equipment was 50 miles. Tests ran between Mount St Leonard and Headquarters in Swanston Street in Melbourne and also over water to Apollo Bay and Cape Schanck.
