Description
Rockall is an isolated, rocky islet in the North Atlantic Ocean. It is located approximately 300 miles from the coasts of Scotland, Ireland and Iceland, although it is legally claimed by the United Kingdom. Rockall is the summit of an extinct volcano and measures nineteen metres in height and is twenty-five metres wide at its base. Coastal Command navigators used this geographic feature as a marker to fix their positions whilst on operations.
