Description
Aerial view of a Short Sunderland Flying Boat of 463 Squadron RAAF, in flight over a convoy of ships and submarines in the Atlantic Ocean. Eleven ships and the conning towers of at least seven submarines can be seen on the surface of the ocean. At the commencement of the Second World War, Australia offered the support of RAAF pilots, crew and aircraft to Britain to serve as part of Royal Air Force Coastal Command, flying anti-submarine patrols and convoy escort over the Atlantic Ocean for the duration of the war.
