Challenge Coin: Air Traffic Control Detachment Iraq : Sergeant J Trenberth, 1 Squadron RAAF
Souvenir medallion with gold rim. Central is a circle with a relief map of Baghdad and a star, with two towers to the left. This circle is surrounded by maps of the United States, Australia and the United Kingdom. Outside this is gold text that reads ' OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM TU633.4.2'. The reverse side has representation of the RAAF roundel, with the text ' BIAP AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL DETACHMENT IRAQ'.
This medallion (also known as a 'challenge coin') was given to Sergeant Jeff Trenberth as a souvenir of his service in Operation Catalyst, the Australian Defence Force's contribution to the reconstruction and rehabilitation of Iraq. After the collapse of the Saddam Hussein regime, the RAAF provided air traffic controllers to run the control tower and Airfield Defence Guards to provide security at Baghdad International Airport. Trenberth was working in Baghdad with TU633.4.2 at this time.
