Elkner, Maureen (Entertainer, b.c.1954)
Collection relating to the Vietnam War experience of performer Maureen Elkner, Vietnam, 1970-1971.
Elkner was a 16 year old entertainer when she went to perform in Vietnam as part of 'The Carmel Shane Show'.
Collection consists of 7 letters, one written by Elkner to her family, and the other six written to her by servicemen, mostly American, spanning the period 4 July 1970 to 12 August 1971. The letters from soldiers discuss how much they miss Elkner and home life in America.
The letter from Elkner to her family discusses what she is doing in Vietnam, but also describes how in love she is with American nurse Robert Frary (author of the letter dated 28 July 1970).
In chronological order, the letters are from: Elkner herself, Robert Frary, Rick Corporass, Jim Godfrey, Rick Buich, Jim Godfrey (again), and Bruce (unknown).
