History / Summary

White ensign flown on the minesweeper HMAS Gull during the Indonesian Confrontation, c 1964-1966. This flag was last flown in the Gull in Singapore on 1 March 1967, when a new distinctively Australian white ensign was adopted in place of the Royal Navy's white ensign. The commanding officer, Lieutenant A M Carwardine, kept the flag as a souvenir. The HMAS Gull was the last minesweeper to return to Australia after service in the Indonesian Confrontation.
