The United States (US) Army Commanding Officer of the Chinook ‘Guns A Go-Go’, Squadron, Colonel ...
The United States (US) Army Commanding Officer of the Chinook ‘Guns A Go-Go’, Squadron, Colonel (Col) J Tedesco, presents his squadron’s badge to the Commanding Officer of No 9 Squadron, RAAF, 22143 Wing Commander (Wing Cdr) Ray Alfred Scott of Campbell, ACT. The badge is as frightening as the fire power of the Chinooks. The badge depicts a skull with the eye and mouth sockets spouting fire. The Chinooks belong to the US No 57 Army Aviation Section, based at Vung Tau with the RAAF. The Chinook gun ship provides the cover for the RAAF Iroquois when they work in Viet Cong (VC) territory. The badge was presented at an informal party in the officers’ mess, Villa Anna, in preparation for the co-operation between the US and Australian forces at Vung Tau. Identified left to right: Major Brian Cooper, Australian Army Ground Liaison Officer; Col J Tedesco; 22143 Wing Cdr Ray Alfred Scott.
