Cover for 90 cm anti-aircraft searchlight : Australian Army
Canvas cover for a 90 cm anti-aircraft searchlight. The circular cover is made of white canvas with a 145 mm black reinforcing edge, possibly of vinyl, sewn to both sides. There are six pairs of brass eyelets let into reinforced pockets spaced at intervals of 740 mm around the circumference of the reinforcing. The markings 'D (Broad Arrow) D' and 'G.M.H. 1942' are stamped on the canvas in black. The reverse of the canvas is coated in a gloss white vinyl-like material and a pencil inscription ('lens') indicates this side faced the searchlight glass. The cover has been folded for storage, and has eight radiating folds marked into it.
The historyof this item is not known but appears to be an unused example. Designed for use with a 90 cm searchlight.
