Collar badge : 60 Infantry Battalion (The Heidelberg Regiment)
Description
In the centre of a Maltese Cross, the numeral '60' on a red enamel field within a white enamel circle inscribed 'CELER ET AUDAX' (Swift and Bold). Surmounted by an Imperial crown highlighted in red and at the base a red enamel banner inscribed 'THE/HEIDELBERG/REGIMENT'. The badge has a green felt backing patch.
History / Summary
Collar badge worn by 60 Infantry Battalion (The Heidelberg Regiment) during the period 1930-1942. Most of this unit's badges were of enamelled brass, and oxidised and non-enamelled examples such as this are unusual. 60 Battalion's latin motto 'Celer et Audax' translates as 'Swift and Bold'.
