The Director General of Medical Services, O33059 Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Lawrence Robert Trudinger ...
The Director General of Medical Services, O33059 Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Lawrence Robert Trudinger recently spent a week in Vietnam for an on-the-spot study of medical care and evacuation methods used by the United States and Australian Services. The RAAF is responsible for evacuating the Australian casualties from 'dust off' pads in the jungle to the long flight home by C130 Hercules transport. At Vung Tau, AVM Trudlinger was taken on a tour of US Army No 36 Field Evacuation Hospital. This 300 bed hospital at Vung Tau Airfield cares for all Australian sick and wounded. To complete his study AVM Trudinger travelled back to Australia by RAAF Hercules with a batch of walking wounded and litter patients. Here litter patients are being carried aboard a C130 for transportation back to Australia for further treatment.
